Heavy body acrylic paint is a type of acrylic paint. We stock a large selection here at iConsume. It is known as heavy body acrylic paint because it is thicker than many other types of acrylic paint. Some artists would describe it as having a ‘buttery’ texture, but it can be watered down too. You can apply this paint with a palette knife or water it down to use with a brush.

Another major reason why heavy body acrylics are so popular with artists is because they use pure pigments and do not contain dyes, fillers or toners, or anything else that might sacrifice the quality of the paint. Higher pigments in the paint make the paint dry more matte and opaque, whereas paint that cannot be loaded with higher pigment often dry more transparent and glossy. The absence of additives in this range of paint means that no two colours will dry the same.

Even when dry, a good-quality heavy body acrylic paint will not crack. As many artists are aware, environmental changes can alter the canvas. This type of paint is popular because it can usually withstand these changes. With this type of paint, the faster you stir it, the thinner it gets. However, it just feels thinner. When you stop stirring it you will notice that the paint is starting to thicken up and get back to its original consistency.

Golden Artist Colors Heavy Body Acrylic Paint

Golden Artist Colors was set up by Sam Golden in June 1980. It was actually Sam Golden and his uncle Leonard Bocour who created acrylic paint in the late-1940s. An artist who visited their shop handed Sam a resin that somewhat resembled honey, and asked Sam if he could make paint out of it. After three years of experimenting, Sam created the first ever batch of acrylic paint. Today the company is one of the best-known and highest quality manufacturers of acrylic paint.
