Gingko Press was founded in 1985 in Germany. Mo Cohen an American and Julie Von Der Ropp were the pioneers of the brand. It was established in Hamburg, Germany.

Since its launch it has became a massive hit in California where it opened a store and since then moved its brand headquarters there in 1994 where it initially started to distribute Taschen America within the US. Since this time it has continued to expand accepting and publishing original manuscripts as well as buying the world rights of Marshall McLuhan the Iconoclast educator, media pioneer and author.

Gingko Press is well known for its publications of art material. Its job is not just limited to simply publish a work or piece of art rather it also does high quality editing, formatting so to publish error free materials. Its slogan is “medium is the message” initially used by Marshall McLuhan himself.
gingko Press is aware of the growing need of software over print form and that privacy cannot be in the fast digital world. Their philosophy is that education is not to be limited to the four walls of the institutes but it is about spreading it anywhere and everywhere due to the globalisation of the world. It has published material by Juxtapose Magazine, Obey Giant, Upper Playground, Visionary, and Kill Your Idols press in the past. Rebel Arts is another medium through which Gingko will be publishing material soon.

Gingko Press also translates many of its authors into German.  Its many authors have received many awards and commendations. It has published thousands of books that proved very helpful for a wide variety of readers from students and scholars to normal people.
